Richard Huntington,CFP, CLPF, is a proud partner with Professional Fiduciary Services(PFS) since 2007.  PFS is Orange County’s largest group of independent professional fiduciaries.  Mr Huntington is one of seven fiduciaries in state of California that are dual credentialed as a California Licensed Professional Fiduciary(CLPF #310) and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER (CFP) .  Mr Huntington serves as a trustee for State Probate Court and Federal Bankruptcy Court.  As a steward to court, Mr Huntington is well experienced with resolving complex trust administrations, managing diverse family dynamics, and court supervised sales.  Richard is dedicated to serving the best interests of his clients with utmost transparency and regularly appears in front of state courts to protect them.

Mr. Huntington serves as trustee for private family trusts with simple and complex holdings, with commercial and real property portfolios, and charitable family trusts.  Richard is honored to serve as the family trustee with unbiased neutrality, and he takes pride in caring and protecting the surviving spouse during incapacity.

Mr. Huntington earned the prestigious CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER (CFP) designation in 2010.  By earning the CFP designation, Richard has mastered rigorous coursework across investments, tax strategy, retirement planning, and estate coordination.  Backed by a strict fiduciary duty, Richard is legally and ethically bound to always put clients’ best interest first. With over 1,600 licensed fiduciaries in California, there are only 7 that are dual credentialed with CFP designation. Mr Huntington has also passed Level I of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program – a globally recognized professional credential for investment and financial management experts.

Mr. Huntington’s fiduciary practice includes the partnership of Maria Umphress since 2017. Ms Umphress is a licensed fiduciary adding more skills and organization to all trust administrations.  Mr. Huntington and Ms Umphress work closely with their support staff to offer the best client and family service.

With his decades of experience and deep financial knowledge, Richard excels at managing complex trusts with various business structures and diverse family dynamics.  Richard incorporated his skills to work closely with CPA’s, financial advisors, lenders, property and business managers, doctors and care managers. Recently, Richard sold a commercial property as Bankruptcy Chapter 11 Plan Trustee appraised at $9.5M for a sale price of $16.7M. Richard serves his clients with the highest level of integrity and compassion and is considered a well experienced and knowledgeable fiduciary in his community and amongst his peers.

Mr. Huntington is a board member for the Financial and Estate Literacy and long time moderator the ‘It’s Your Money” and “It’s Your Estate” workshop programs. PFS founder, Peter Kote, created the educational workshop program in the ’90. Mr. Kote has nurtured the workshop program to become incorporated as Financial and Estate Literacy, a non-profit 501c3 organization in 2012.  The mission of Financial and Estate Literacy is to provide unbiased education on financial, estate, and philanthropic planning. The FEL programs are held at senior centers and libraries to educate the community in financial and estate planning. Encouraging the attendees to control and formulate their own financial and estate planning decisions.

Mr. Huntington serves as the President of Professional Fiduciary Association of California(PFAC) Chapter of Orange County.  Utilizing his leadership skills to organize and schedule monthly educational meetings.  He enjoys mentoring the newer fiduciaries on their process.

Mr. Huntington serves as a board member for Orange County Estate Planning Council(OCEPC), one of the areas prestigious group of estate planners offering excellent presentations for continuing education credits.

Mr. Huntington has been a featured guest on the radio show “Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way” hosted by Brian Berg and Howard Serbin to discuss roles of a private professional fiduciary. He has presented for CalCPA, Orange Teacher Association, and Reata Glen on “Role of the Fiduciary.”

Mr. Huntington is a graduate from California State University Fullerton (CSUF) having earned a BA in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. While earning his degree, Richard was awarded the Edward D Cunha Scholarship, CSU Real Estate Scholarship and Orange County Chapter of RIMS Scholarship. Further, as part of a three-student team, Richard was a finalist for the American Express Planning Invitational, a national financial planning competition.

Richard has lived in Mission Viejo, California since 1972, while attending grade school in Laguna Beach at St. Catherine/St. Nicholas and then high school at Mater Dei in Santa Ana. He attended San Diego State University for three years prior to transferring to CSUF.  Richard is married and has a daughter who is married. Outside his professional work, Richard enjoys sailing his 39’ Catalina sloop.

Maria Umphress is a California Licensed Professional Fiduciary (CLPF #1405) and National Certified Guardian. She works with the Professional Fiduciary Services (PFS) group serving Orange County, California. Maria works alongside Richard Huntington as a partner with his individual and family fiduciary work, bringing even more skills and attention to the family and process.

A highly skilled, experienced, and compassionate service provider for over seven years, Maria excels in providing clients with timely and accurate communication. Maria has prepared fiduciary accountings for submittal to the courts, including federal bankruptcy accounting and reporting. She has received extensive training and gained critical experience under the tutelage of Barbara Willey (CPA), specifically in the areas of tax preparation for trusts and estates. Maria is a graduate of California State University Fullerton (CSUF). She is bilingual and biliterate in Spanish.

Maria is the owner and founder of Back Office Support Services (BOSS) since 2018. Back Office Support Services provides all aspects of bookkeeping including: management of financials, account reconciliation, AP & AR, fiduciary accountings for trusts, conservatorships, and probate. Acting liaison for clients with third parties including real estate brokers, CPA’s, financial institutions, caregiving agencies, contractors, estate sales, insurance carriers, employees, tenants, and utility companies.

Prior to her involvement in this aspect of business, Maria served in a management capacity within a private environmental company that achieved incredible growth over a nineteen-year span. Maria was instrumental in the company’s development and played key roles in nearly all aspects of the business from regulatory compliance, accounting, payroll, logistics, customer service, human resources, and senior management.

Maria is a member of the Professional Fiduciary Association of California (PFAC), and an associate member of the Trusts & Estates and Elder Law Sections of the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA).

A life-long resident of Southern California, Maria enjoys hiking and is often found chasing her faithful Labrador “Beans”, in the national forest right outside her backdoor in Silverado Canyon. Maria along with her husband Kirt are the proud parents of five wonderful adult children and like to spoil their two beautiful granddaughters.
